BCMS Corporate identifies suitor for clothing retailer Muddy Puddles

Corporate finance boutique, BCMS Corporate has completed the sale earlier this month of leading online children’s wear manufacturer Muddy Puddles to TP Toys.

Founded in 1984 by farmers’ wife and mother of three Susie Cullen, Muddy Puddles has grown from the kitchen table into a multi-million pound mail order all-weather clothing business employing seven people from offices in Kingsbridge in Devon. Muddy Puddles’ range includes waterproofs, winter outdoor clothing as well as skiwear.

Recently, Susie and her husband John Cullen decided to sell the company in order to concentrate on running their farm in the West Country and approached corporate finance boutique BCMS Corporate to identify a suitable buyer. TP Toys is one of the UK’s leading outdoor toy manufacturers. Launched in the 1950s, it produces a comprehensive range of outdoor climbing frames and trampolines, including one exclusively for Tesco’s, from its headquarters in Worcestershire.

Says John Humphrey, Deal Leader at BCMS Corporate: “We are delighted to have sold Muddy Puddles, particularly to a company such as TP Toys, with whom they share many synergies.” Adds Susie Cullen, Co-Owner of Muddy Puddles: “We have recognised for some time now that our business has become too big and recently decided to target a buyer in order to take it into the next level.”

“We are extremely grateful to John and the team at BCMS Corporate for all their support without whom we would have never identified the right partner in TP Toys. Selling a business is never easy but we have every confidence that in TP Toys we have found a natural fit.”
